Hence, an operator of an MEWP is required to attend and pass a MEWP training course conducted by a MOM Accredited Training Provider (ATP) specific for the type of MEWP he is operating (e.g. Boom lift, Scissors lift, Vertical Personnel Platform etc) prior to operating the MEWP.
The correct choice and use of work equipment becomes a key element to eliminate or reduce workplace accidents. The prevention of falls from height is thus considered to be a joint effort, both for the employer and the hirer, and must be transformed by both into actions able to steer in the right direction the operators behaviour on the construction sites.
To this purpose, Galmon’s state-of-the-art training centre offers an array of courses such as Ministry of Manpower (MOM) Accredited Operator Training, Familiarization Training and Maintenance Training. These courses can be arranged and are conducted at our in-house facility or at customers’ site. Successful candidates will be certified according to the training underwent.
MOM-Approved Operator Training
Become a certified boom lift, scissor lift or personnel lift operator by attending Galmon’s Operator Training courses. Our MEWP operator courses are approved by the Ministry of Manpower, with syllabus following strictly to the guidelines set out in the Curriculum Development Advisory (CDA).
Familiarisation Training
In addition to the MEWP training course, an operator of a MEWP shall be familiarised with the controls and characteristics of each model of MEWP he is required to operate. Familiarisation training shall be provided to the operator by a Competent Person who is trained and competent in the model of the MEWP.
Operators who intend to use any machine differing significantly from the machine they have been trained on should receive a familiarisation to cover the differences.
Familiarisation training is a demonstration of all control functions, safety devices and special features of a particular make or model of Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) to a trained operator by a Galmon personnel with demonstrator standard.
Machine specific familiarisation usually follows on from the MEWP operator training and covers manufacturers instructions, warnings and control functions. Safety devices and emergency lowering systems are located and checked for operation.
